Reiki, pronounced ‘ray-key’, is a healing practice and spiritual art that originated in Japan by Mikao Usui during the early 1900s. By gently placing hands over the body to share life-force energy, Reiki helps with healing, stress reduction, and relaxation. In Japanese, “rei” means spirit or soul, and “ki” refers to the energy of the universe. Together, they translate to ‘universal energy’ and describe the practice of healing through energy. Reiki isn’t just a supportive therapy for the body, mind, and soul; it can also guide us toward inner peace, connect us with other beings and the universe, and reveal our true potential.
Reiki works by balancing and harmonizing the energy field that surrounds each of us. Anyone can learn Reiki, but it requires training and attunements from a Reiki Master. This master transfers universal energy to you during the initial Level-1 training. The Reiki system includes three levels of training, focusing on five key elements. My book explains these basics through easy self-care exercises.
This spiritual practice connects energies from heaven and earth in our hearts, bringing our mind, body, and spirit together. Practicing Reiki regularly helps us embody oneness, compassion, and kindness. When you heal yourself with Reiki, you also help others.
We often focus on our skin’s flaws without looking deeper. Our skin acts as a barrier between our internal and external worlds, making skincare a spiritual practice when approached thoughtfully. Our skin allows us to feel the universe around us and connect with others both physically and emotionally. Skincare is like communicating with ourselves, slowing down, and becoming more mindful like meditation does for the mind.
While external lotions and treatments can improve skin appearance, they don’t address internal feelings of inadequacy or comparison. I shifted my attention from how the skin looks to understanding what it reveals about our inner life. Evaluating spiritual tools like Reiki can help us understand our emotions better.
Reiki is based on the idea that a life force energy flows through us and keeps us alive. If this energy is low, we might feel ill or stressed; if high, we feel healthier and happier. Reiki can enhance the skin’s appearance by boosting overall well-being. It affects the skin directly and promotes health indirectly, which leads to immediate and long-lasting benefits.
Feeling good about yourself through Reiki can improve your skin’s radiance and youthfulness because stress accelerates aging. Reiki is safe for everyone, including pregnant women, and has no harmful side effects. It fosters positive inner beauty, reducing signs of aging and dry skin.
Reiki practitioners channel energy into the client’s skin, enhancing the effects of natural skincare ingredients like essential oils and botanicals. These beneficial materials, energized through Reiki, work more effectively to restore the skin. During a session, you might experience a warm sensation or feel deeply relaxed, similar to a massage or spa treatment. Some feel increased energy and mental clarity afterward, with skin feeling soft and renewed.
Reiki skincare involves various holistic methods like acupressure, shiatsu, reflexology, crystal therapy, and aromatherapy. Combining these allows people to experience their benefits in less time with a practitioner. This is useful for those new to Reiki or who can’t access local practitioners.
Our skin, as the largest organ, reflects our inner emotions. Building a mindful relationship with our skin helps us accept how we look and feel in the present. This Reiki-infused ritual promotes kindness towards your skin:
Benefits of this practice include connecting with your skin in the moment and sending it love and compassion. Start by sitting quietly, closing your eyes, and placing hands on your chest to sense Reiki flowing. Visualize yourself beside a stream, letting earth dry on your skin before washing it away, feeling warmth and acceptance. Share Reiki with your face, then move your hands to your heart, feeling grateful for your skin.
Reiki can create warmth that may release toxins through the skin, possibly resulting in unexpected sensations like a fresh scent. After a session, you should feel relaxed and energized. If you’re tired, it might signal incomplete healing.
How you perceive yourself is crucial. External changes can make a difference, but inner work is essential for genuine improvement. Our body image is shaped by our thoughts and beliefs. Discussing the spiritual side with professionals might seem uncomfortable to some, but inner healing plays a significant role in overall health and well-being. My experience with spiritual skincare has positively impacted how I perceive myself, both internally and externally.
